Invisalign

Invisalign treatment allows you to transform your smile discreetly and comfortably with virtually-invisible, removable braces.

Invisalign aligners are completely transparent and custom made to gradually straighten your teeth without using any metal wires or brackets. Your aligners can discreetly correct several different orthodontic issues to give you a balanced, even smile in as little as three months1.

The aligners look like clear, flexible retainers and are removable, so you can take them out when eating or brushing your teeth.

Virtually invisible

Unlike traditional braces, the Invisalign system doesn’t use wires or brackets. The clear aligners are virtually invisible, so it’s barely noticeable that you’re having your teeth straightened.

How Invisalign works

Here’s a step-by-step guide to Invisalign treatment.

                        • Visit us at Detist on the Green
At your first appointment we’ll help you decide your course of treatment. The dentist will take bite impressions of your teeth and send them to Invisalign.
                        • Making your aligners3D imaging technology is used to transform your bite impressions into a custom-made series of clear and removable aligners. There may be as many as 48 in the series or as a few as 12, depending on your requirements.
                        • Receive your alignersDuring your next visit to our Dentist on the Green clinic, you will receive your first set of aligners. Your dentist will probably give you a few additional sets for you to wear before you return for your next visit.
                        • Wear your alignersYou’ll wear each set of the aligners for about two weeks, removing them only to eat, drink, brush and floss. You’ll need to visit your dentist every six weeks to check that your treatment is progressing as planned. The total treatment time averages from 12 to 18 months2.
                        • Finish your treatmentYour treatment ends when you have worn each set of aligners. To help keep your new straighter smile, you will wear retainers at night for six months, and then usually a few times a week as instructed by your dentist.

You will wear each set of aligners for 20 to 22 hours a day, changing to a new set of aligners every 1 to 2 weeks, as directed by your doctor. Each set of aligners will gently and gradually shift your teeth into place, according to your treatment plan, until you reach your beautiful new smile.

For optimal results, Invisalign gradually aligns your teeth, which minimizes discomfort and ensures a precise, healthy smile. It is unrealistic to see changes in one to two weeks. While result speed varies between patients, some patients may begin to notice a subtle difference within 10 to 12 weeks.

Invisalign does hurt. In general, it is less painful than traditional metal braces, and like any type of orthodontic treatment, the pain fades after the teeth adjust to wearing the aligners and to having new aligners swapped in and out. There are a few sources of pain when it comes to Invisalign.
